How does a blog improve my website traffic?
When web surfers are searching for cats, dogs, rescues, services or any related products or services, they will enter keywords that describe their search on search engines (such as Google or Yahoo!). The search engine looks at every website available, searching for websites that have the most relevant and frequent match to these keywords. The websites that have the most common occurrences of these keywords will show up on the search engine results at the top of the list. These websites are thus ranked higher on the search engine because of the keywords they have in common with the search made.
What is a blog?
The term “blog” is short for weblog, which is essentially an online journal or “newsletter” that is updated regularly with content for the general public to read. Because blogs are written documents that generally correspond to the content in our website, they increase the keyword count results in search engines, and can provide a tremendous amount of traffic.
What kinds of things should I write about in my blog?
As a breeder, you are an expert in your breed(s), and you have a lot of knowledge to share. You may have helpful hints for new kitten/puppy owners, information on your breed that you feel is important, or even an update on the progress of your latest litter or show ring star.
You also use lots of products for your animals, both at home and in the show hall. Not only can you support the products that help you achieve your success, but linking to larger websites improves your site rank even more.
So – get a cup of your favorite beverage, sit down at the keyboard, and let the world know what you have to say! You’ll be surprised at how valuable it will be not only for your readers, but for your web site as well.
Can a website be both functional and beautiful?
Yes! The question is whether or not the web design has taken the time to address each element. There are SO many things to write about on this subject, and the answers are highly dependent on what type of website you are building and who your audience is. For this first in a series on the subject, let’s talk about the first thing anyone designing a website needs to think about: Knowing Your Audience.
